St Mary Lake area in Glacier National PArk photos

Glacier National Park's Saint Mary Lake as you only see in St (Saint) Mary Lake photos. Here is Paul Spade's story in his own words.

"I woke up that Saturday morning and as every Saturday morning I checked the Glacier National Park web cams set up in three locations. I had been to Many Glacier three times already this year trying to catch the lake calm so I could get some reflections of the mountains on the water. As I looked at my monitor, there it was, perfectly calm, like glass. I jumped into my truck and headed up to Glacier's Going to the Sun Highway hoping that I could make it before everything changed. The wind can come up in a minute on the east side of the Continental Divide."

"Driving by the photo stop for Wild Goose Island, I notice that the Saint Mary Lake was calm, so I stopped and got some shots there, knowing that that was a once in ten shot at a calm lake. Then as I was headed for the Park exit, I couldn't believe my eyes. the Lake was perfectly calm, the reflection like a well polished mirror waiting for me to come in and take one shot after another. Order number June29_005 Price $90.00 18"x12" Print only All the St Mary photos have similar backgrounds, beautiful Glacier National Park mountains reflecting of the mirror finish of Saint Mary Lake. In the 18x12 print it is difficult to see the difference between real and reflection. This photo has a foreground with some deadwood, gravel beach and sinking gravel lake bottom.

Order number June29_008 Price $90.00 18"x12" Print only This photo of Saint Mary Lake has a gravel shore on the left side with bushes and trees lining the shore and reflecting off the mirror lake surface all the way out to the peninsula point. As in the other photos the rapid stone lake bottom drop off is noticeable through the perfectly clear water. What you cannot see in this photo is hidden in the brush along the side. As I was following an animal trail to the point to take the other photographs, I discovered several animal beds hidden in the brush. There were also huge tracks, probably from elk or moose.

Order number June29_008 Price $90.00 18"x12" Print only This photo includes some deadwood on the left and a mid morning shadow creeping up on the rocky lake bottom visible because of the perfectly clear water. Notice the perfect reflection of the shorelines and mountains.

Order number June29_015 Price $90.00 18"x12" Print only This is my favorite . The tree on the left casts a mid morning shadow on the stone lake bottom. The rich blue sky and streaks of clouds along with the beautiful shoreline and mountain range reflect perfectly on the mirror lake surface.
